(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 23, 2007) – Long Island Ducks team officials today announced that pitcher Randy Leek has had his contract purchased by the Toronto Blue Jays organization. The southpaw will report to Triple-A Syracuse, where he is expected to join the Chiefs’ starting rotation.
“We’re very proud of what Randy has accomplished while wearing a Ducks uniform this year,” says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. “We’re excited that he will have the opportunity to pitch at such a high level, and hope we may see him back at Citibank Park next month after the Triple-A season ends to help us in our playoff push.”
Leek compiled a 5-1 record and an impressive 2.29 ERA in 11 starts for the Ducks this summer. He pitched two shutouts, including a three-hit complete game on July 31 against the Road Warriors. The Long Island native gave up three earned runs per less in all but one of his starts this season. He displayed command of his pitches and an ability to change speeds, racking up 55 strikeouts while walking only 14 batters.
The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Citibank Park and are entering their eighth season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. For further information, visit www.liducks.com, or call (631) 940-3825.
