Eddie Pena of the Worcester Tornadoes has Contract Bought by Chicago White Sox - Can-Am League to MLB

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - DURHAM , NC – The Can-Am League announced today that Worcester Tornadoes RHP Eddie Pena had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox . Pena becomes the sixth player from the Can-Am to have his contract sold to a major league organization since the end of the 2007 season. The other five players include: Tony Gonzalez – San Diego Padres ; Guillermo Reyes – Arizona Diamondbacks ; Olmo Rosario – San Francisco Giants ; Steve Palazzolo – San Francisco Giants and Tom Atlee – Milwaukee Brewers .

Pena, 24, appeared in 29 games out of the bullpen for the Tornadoes in 2007, posting a 5-3 record and a 5.56 ERA. The submarining righty was especially tough on lefthanded batters, holding them to a stingy .220 batting average. The Georgetown University product will be making his second foray into affiliated baseball. He spent the entire 2006 season pitching at three different levels in the San Diego Padres system, including five games with Triple-A Portland of the Pacific Coast League. Pena has had two stints with Worcester , as he was part of the 2005 Tornadoes Can-Am League championship team, going 2-4, 5.08 in 32 appearances (1 start).
