San Diego Padres Reinstate Jim Edmonds
Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 04:17PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres today reinstated outfielder Jim Edmonds from the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Jody Gerut to Triple-A Portland. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.
Edmonds suffered a strained right calf muscle on March 6 in a Spring Training game in Peoria, Ariz., against the Colorado Rockies. He played center field Thursday and Friday in a rehabilitation assignment at Single-A Lake Elsinore, going a combined 2-for-6.

ADVERTISEMENT Edmonds, 37, was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals along with cash considerations on December 15, 2007 in exchange for infielder David Freese. He was 1-for-6 with a double, walk and one RBI in four Spring Training games. Edmonds has a career Major League batting average of .287 (1801-for-6272) with 395 doubles, 23 triples, 362 homers, 1,121 RBI, 1,154 runs scored, 919 walks and 63 steals.
Gerut, 30, has played in four of the Padres first five games of the 2008 season, going 1-for-6. In 324 Major League games, he has batted .263 (299-for-1,137) with 75 doubles, eight triples, 34 home runs, 140 RBI, 153 runs and 109 walks. Gerut, who signed a minor league contract with San Diego on January 27, made the Padres Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee.
