Gerut, who was optioned to Portland on Saturday, played in four of the Padres’ first five games of the 2008 campaign, going 1-for-6. In 324 major league games, he has batted .263 with 75 doubles, eight triples, 34 home runs, 140 RBIs, 153 runs and 109 walks with Cleveland (2003-2005), the Chicago Cubs (2005), Pittsburgh (2005) and San Diego (2008).
