Cory Aldridge and Mike Just Sign Contracts with Atlantic League Newark Bears

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – NEWARK, NJ - The defending Atlantic League Champions Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club announced today that the team has signed former Major League outfielder Cory Aldridge and infielder Mike Just to contracts for 2008 season.
 
Aldridge is entering is first season with the Newark Bears and his 12th professionally. Originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 4th round of the 1997 draft, Aldridge reached the Major Leagues and appeared in 8 games with the Braves during the 2001 season. That same year he hit 19 home runs at Double-A Greenville. Four years later, while splitting the season between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A Omaha, Aldridge smacked a career-high 30 home runs and drove in a career-best 84 runs. Last season, playing for Double-A Birmingham, he led the Southern League with a career-high 33 doubles.

Just, the Woodcliff Lake, NJ resident is no stranger to the Independent Leagues. He began his career in the Frontier League in 2006, where he batted .317 with 18 RBI for River City. Last season he posted his best career numbers across the board and was named the Northern League’s Rookie of the Year while playing for Fargo-Moorhead. Just was the 7th leading hitter in the league, batting .336, with 111 base-hits, 56 runs scored, 24 doubles, 44 walks, 55 RBI, and 20 stolen bases.  
 

The Bears open up defense of their 2007 Atlantic League Championship in a ceremony prior to their 2008 home opener against the Bridgeport Bluefish on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:05 PM.
