Long Island Ducks Sign Lefty Pitcher Steve Kent - Atlantic League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - (Central Islip, N.Y., May 10, 2008) – Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of pitcher Steve Kent. The 29-year-old joins the Ducks for his second year in the Atlantic League, after spending part of the 2007 season with the Bridgeport Bluefish.

“Steven gives us a good left arm that we know can compete in this league,” says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. “We’re excited to have him on our ballclub.”

Kent went 4-2 with a 5.02 ERA in 30 games (eight starts) for the Bluefish. In 75.1 innings, he struck out 56 batters. He appeared in 34 games in 2002 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The nine-year vet was a ninth round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners in 1999, and has appeared in 284 minor league games. Kent owns 24 wins and 11 saves at the minor league level.

In order to make room for Kent on the 25-man roster, the Ducks announced they have released pitcher Jim Magrane.
