Friday, July 11, 2008 at 10:43AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – GENEVA, IL – The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that outfielder Corey Brown has been transferred to High-A Stockton. Brown becomes the eighth Cougar this season to receive a promotion and the second Cougars All-Star (RHP Craig Italiano, June 25) to depart for Stockton this season. Brown’s departure leaves the Cougars at 24 active players on the roster entering play tonight.
A 1st round compensation pick in ’07 by Oakland, Brown played in 84 of the Cougars’ 87 games as an everyday outfielder for manager Aaron Nieckula’s squad. The 22-year old led Kane County in several offensive categories including home runs (14), hits (81) and RBI (48) while also drawing a team-high 40 walks. Brown’s 300 at-bats trailed only first baseman Greg Dowling (317) for most on the team.

After dropping a 5-1 decision to Peoria last night, the Cougars (7-12 2nd half, 46-41 overall) hope to get back on track this evening for a 6:30 p.m. contest against the Chiefs at Elfstrom Stadium. Kane County pitcher Scott Deal (5-3, 3.88) faces the Chiefs’ Jose Pina (0-0, 0.00). Cubs pitcher Scott Eyre is expected to pitch in a one-inning rehab appearance for the Chiefs tonight.
