Potomac Nationals OF Marvin Lowrance Makes the Jump to AA Harrisburg Senators

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – WOODBRIDGE, Va.— The Potomac Nationals announced today that outfielder and reigning Carolina League Offensive Player of the Week Marvin Lowrance has been promoted to Double-A Harrisburg. Additionally, outfielder and former College World Series standout Boomer Whiting has been added to the Potomac
roster from Low-A Hagerstown.

In 74 games with the P-Nats, Lowrance hit .268 with 12 home runs and 39 RBI. He was awarded the leagues top weekly offensive honor after hitting .474 (9-for-19) with five home runs and 11 RBI over a five game stretch.
The 23-year-old had a rough month of June hitting only .214 (15-for-70) with three homers and 11 RBI in 22 contests. The former seventh-round pick in 2004 has turned things around in July, hitting .455 (10-for-22) with a
trio of home runs and six RBI in just seven games.

Lowrance had a career year in 2007 splitting time between Potomac and Hagerstown batting .270 with a career-high 20 home runs and 62 RBI. His 16 home runs with the P-Nats led the team. The California-native’s 33 career home runs as a Potomac National is tops on the franchise’s list since becoming a Washington affiliate in 2005. In 284 games in a Nationals uniform, Lowrance is a career .259 hitter. This marks his first stint

above the Advanced-A level in five professional seasons.

To replace Lowrance on the roster, the P-Nats get Brandon “Boomer” Whiting from the Hagerstown Suns. The 25-year-old hit .261 with a pair of home runs and 27 RBI in 58 games this season. The former 28th-round pick in
2007 played in 62 games with Short-Season Vermont and hit .250 with two home runs and 23 RBI. He led the New York-Penn League in stolen bases with 37 and earned league Player of the Week honors last August with the Lake Monsters.

Whiting hit .400 (4-for-10) with two RBI and four runs scored along with four walks and three strikeouts in three College World Series games in 2007 with the Louisville Cardinals. He led the nation with 73 steals in
his final season with Louisville.

The Potomac Nationals 25-Man roster still stands at 24 with 12 pitchers and 12 position players.
