OF Jesus Valdez Promoted from Vermont Lake Monsters to Hagerstown Suns

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - BURLINGTON, VT --- Vermont outfielder Jesus Valdez was promoted to the Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League on Sunday, the Lake Monsters announced today.

Valdez was leading the Lake Monsters with a .341 average (29-for-85) at the time of his promotion, along with 12 runs scored, four doubles, one home run and 16 RBI in 23 of Vermont's first 26 games.

A 23-year-old from the Dominican Republic, Valdez had signed with the Washington Nationals before the 2008 season after spending four years in the Chicago Cubs minor league system.

Outfielder Yhonson Lopez, a 19-year-old from Venezuela, has joined the Lake Monsters and went 0-for-3 with a run scored in his New York-Penn league debut on Saturday.

Lopez was hitting .206 (7-for-34) with four runs, two doubles and six RBI in 11

games for the Gulf Coast League Nationals when he was promoted.  In 2007 with the GCL Nationals, Lopez hit .286 (32-for-112) with 16 runs, five doubles, two homers and 18 RBI in 36 games.
