Newark Bears Sign Pitcher Frank Rodriguez, Retired Since 2001

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

NEWARK, N.J. – The 2007 Atlantic League champion Newark Bears have announced the signing of pitcher Frank Rodriguez.

The Brooklyn-born right hander has decided to make a return to professional baseball after leaving the game in 2001.  He brings 184 games of major league experience to the Bears.

Rodriguez started his professional career with the Boston Red Sox organization in 1992 and advanced to the majors with

the Red Sox in 1995. Midway through the season, Rodriguez was traded to the Minnesota Twins for major league All-Star Rick Aguilera.

In 1996, he amassed a team-leading 13 wins in 33 starts and posted a 5.05 ERA with the Twins.

In addition to playing for the Red Sox and Twins, Rodriguez has also spent time with the Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds in a major league career that spanned from 1995 to 2001.

The Newark Bears play their home games at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, conveniently located off of Route 280, across the street from the Newark-Broad St. train station, and just minutes from Route 78 and the New Jersey Turnpike.  For ticket information please call 1-866-55-4BEAR or visit the Bears' website www.newarkbears.com.
