Kansas City Royals Place OF Joey Gathright on Disabled List, Recall OF Mitch Maier from Triple-A Omaha Royals

KANSAS CITY, MO – The Kansas City Royals have placed outfielder Joey Gathright on the 15-day disabled list with a bone bruise in his right shoulder and recalled outfielder Mitch Maier from Triple-A Omaha.
Maier, 26, was hitting .316 (109-for-345) with 24 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 41 RBI and 57 runs scored in 85 games for the O-Royals.
Selected by the Royals in the first round (30th overall) of the 2003 draft, Maier made his Major League debut in September of 2006, going 2-for-13 in five games with three runs scored. Maier was an All-Star from 2003-2006 at various levels of the minor leagues.
Gathright was hitting .251 on the season with 21 stolen bases in 25 attempts.
