Kansas City Royals Place OF Joey Gathright on Disabled List, Recall OF Mitch Maier from Triple-A Omaha Royals

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - KANSAS CITY, MO – The Kansas City Royals have placed outfielder Joey Gathright on the 15-day disabled list with a bone bruise in his right shoulder and recalled outfielder Mitch Maier from Triple-A Omaha.

Maier, 26, was hitting .316 (109-for-345) with 24 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 41 RBI and 57 runs scored in 85 games for the O-Royals. Omaha's regular center fielder, he joins the Royals riding an eight-game hitting streak. The left-handed batter and right-handed thrower has hit equally well against both right and left handers this season, posting .316 (81-for-256) and .315 (28-for-89) marks, respectively. Six of his nine long balls have come against southpaws.

Selected by the Royals in the first round (30th overall) of the 2003 draft, Maier made his Major League debut in September of 2006, going 2-for-13 in five games with three runs scored. Maier was an All-Star from 2003-2006 at various levels of the minor leagues.

Gathright was hitting .251 on the season with 21 stolen bases in 25 attempts.
