Peoria Rivermen Signs Three Players for 2008-09 Season

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - PEORIA - Peoria Rivermen General Manager of Hockey Operations Kevin McDonald announced that the team has inked defensemen Jim Jackson and Tyson Strachan, as well as goaltender Chris Holt, for the 2008-09 Season.

Both Strachan and Jackson are familiar faces for Rivermen fans, having played for the club this past season.

Jackson, 28, appeared in 17 games with Peoria, scoring once and adding five assists. He also appeared in seven games with the Manitoba Moose and 27 with the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators, where he scored 10 goals and 14 points in that span. The Marquette, Mich. native has also seen AHL action previously with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2006-07.

The 23-year-old Strachan enters his second full season of pro hockey after appearing in 34 games with Peoria last season, notching a goal and two assists plus 61 minutes in penalties. Strachan came to the Rivermen after beginning the year with the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers, playing 25 regular season games with the club before returning for 16 post-season appearances as the Wranglers lost in the Kelly Cup Final to the Cincinnati Cyclones. Originally selected in the fifth round, #137 overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-3, 225 lb. blueliner also appeared in one game with the Albany River Rats in 2006-07 after finishing a four-year college career at The Ohio State University.

Peoria also added depth in net with the addition of Holt, 23, who has spent the last three seasons in the New York Rangers system after being selected in the sixth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-3, 220 lb. goaltender saw one game of NHL action in 2005-06 with the Rangers, stopping both shots faced in 10 minutes of action. Last season, the South Surrey, BC native split time between the ECHL’s Charlotte Checkers where he posted a 15-13-2 record, 2.72 goals against average and .915 save percentage, and the Hartford Wolf*Pack (5-3-0, 2.42 GAA, .906 save %). Over three

seasons with the Wolf*Pack, Holt is 10-6-1 with a 2.98 GAA and .896 save percentage.
