Shaun Babula Signs with Atlantic League Newark Bears

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

NEWARK, N.J. – The 2007 Atlantic League champion Newark Bears have announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Shaun Babula.

The 31-year-old South Jersey native was a vital part of the Bears' stretch run towards their second Atlantic League title last year.  Babula joined the Bears in September of last season after completing his season with the Chicago White Sox' Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte. He made six appearances for the Bears to finish out the regular season.

In the playoffs, Babula proved to be valuable, making five appearances out of the bullpen and did not concede a run in four innings of work, helping the Bears win their championship.

In his first season with Newark in 2006, Babula made 21 appearances and posted a 4.26 earned run average while striking out 24 batters in 25.1 innings pitched.

Prior to joining the Bears, Babula was a part of the Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros organizations from 1999 until 2004. In 2005, he made his Atlantic League debut for the Camden Riversharks, where he also made his first three appearances of the 2006 season.
