Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of pitcher
Lance Davis. The veteran southpaw returns for his fourth season with
Long Island, and is the franchise’s all-time wins leader. Davis spent
last season with the Flock, posting a 9-4 record in 18 starts.
“We’re
excited to have Lance back,” says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. “He’s a
veteran guy who knows this league and will give our pitching staff a
boost.”
Davis is a veteran of 13 professional seasons, and earned a tour in the Major Leagues with Cincinnati in 2001, where he went 8-4 for the Reds in 20 starts. The Florida native first joined the Ducks in 2004, and was a key component of the starting rotation. Davis won eight games, and his efforts garnered him an offer to pitch with the New York Yankees’ Triple-A team in Columbus. Later that same year, the lefty returned to Long Island and helped the Ducks claim their first Atlantic League championship. He spent the entire 2005 and 2007 seasons with the Flock, and owns a club record 28 victories. Davis has spent time in the Reds, Yankees and Tigers systems, and has posted a career record of 87-75 at the minor league level with a 4.08 ERA.
In other moves announced today, the Ducks have placed pitcher/first baseman Rob Cafiero on the inactive list and pitcher Clint Nageotte on the disabled list. The Ducks also announced that infielder Damian Jackson was sent to the Camden Riversharks as compensation for the trade earlier this season which brought pitcher Abe Alvarez to Long Island.
