OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A's today selected right-handed pitcher Kirk Saarloos from Triple-A Sacramento.  To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's designated first baseman Wes Bankston for assignment.  Saarloos takes the roster spot of Dan Meyer, who was optioned to Sacramento following yesterday's game.

Saarloos joins Oakland for the second time this year as he had no decisions and a 2.35 ERA in two relief appearances during his first stint from April 14 to 22.  He has spent the balance of the season at Triple-A Sacramento where he was 9-4 with a 4.22 ERA in 22 games, all starts.  Saarloos is leading the River Cats in innings pitched (140.2) and is tied for the team lead in games started.  He has allowed a .272 opponents batting average, including .277 against left-handed hitters and .266 against right-handers.  The 29-year old right-hander went 3-1 with a 3.47 ERA over his final nine starts with Sacramento.

Bankston hit .203 with a home run and four RBI in 17 games over two stints with Oakland this year.
