Texas Rangers Call Up Joaquin Arias from Oklahoma RedHawks to Replace Injured Ian Kinsler

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced prior to tonight's game that the club has placed infielder Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list with a sports hernia.  The club has recalled infielder Joaquin Arias from Triple-A Oklahoma to take Kinsler's place on the roster.  Arias (#4) will be in uniform for tonight's contest against the Detroit Tigers.

Kinsler, 26, has played in 121 of the Rangers' 125 games so far this season and carries the 4th-highest batting average in the American League at .319 (165-for-518).  The 2008 AL All-Star entered the week leading the majors in hits and runs (102), ranking 2nd with an AL-best 268 total bases.  Kinsler also ranks among league leaders in doubles (2nd, 41), extra-base hits (2nd, 63), multi-hit games (2nd, 48) and stolen bases (7th, 26).  His 41 doubles are already the 2nd-most by a second baseman in Texas history.  The Rangers lead-off man has also established career-highs in RBI (71), hits, runs, doubles, extra-base hits and stolen bases.  He will be eligible to come off the disabled list on September 3.

Arias, 23, is batting .296 (128-for-432) with 15 doubles, 9 triples, 7 home runs and 49 RBI over 104 games for the RedHawks this season.  He made his major league debut as a September call-up in 2006, batting .545 (6-for-11) in his only 6 big league games-to-date.  A native of the Dominican Republic, Arias was sidelined for virtually all of the 2007 season due to a right thumb infection and lingering right shoulder soreness.  He was originally acquired from the New York Yankees on March 23, 2004, along with Alfonso Soriano, in exchange for Alex Rodriguez.

With these moves, the Rangers still have 40 players on the club's 40-man roster.
