Victor Zambrano Sent to Double-A Trenton Thunder

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - (Reading, PA)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Victor Zambrano has been added to the Thunder roster from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). LHP Zach Kroenke was promoted from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.  Zambrano will start on Monday night for the Thunder against Reading.

Zambrano was signed by the Yankees as a minor league free-agent on August 1st.  He is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two starts for the Gulf Coast League Yankees.  He has tossed eight shutout innings over the two starts.  He has struck out nine and walked two.  He also has spent time this season with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Triple-A) in the Pacific Coast League.  The Sky Sox are affiliated with the Colorado Rockies.  He was 0-6 with a 9.45 ERA in 14 G/6 ST for Colorado Springs.

During 2007, Zambrano pitch in three different Organizations.  He was 0-2 with a 10.97 ERA in 8 G/2 ST for the Toronto Blue Jays.  He was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in one start for Dunedin (High-A), and 0-0 with a 5.68 ERA in one start for New Hampshire (Double-A).  He went 3-2 with a 7.40 ERA in eight starts for Syracuse (Triple-A).  He was 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in five starts for Indianapolis (Triple-A), in Pittsburgh's Organization. He also was 0-1 with a 9.49 ERA in 5 G/2 ST for the Baltimore Orioles. He has also pitched in the Major Leagues for the New York Mets and Tampa Bay.  He entered 2008 with a 45-44 career record with a 4.64 ERA in 187 G/100 ST.  He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees on August 19, 1993.  He was an infielder in the Yankees Organization before being released prior the 1996 season.

Kroenke was 6-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 37 games for Trenton, including one save.  He is 5-0 with a 2.19 ERA in 19 appearances at Waterfront Park.  Since the All-Star break, he has a 2-0 record with a 1.93 ERA in nine games.  Opponents were only hitting .187 against him.  Kroenke appeared in Sunday's game for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  He tossed three shutout innings to pick up the win against Lehigh Valley.  Last season, Kroenke split the season between Tampa (High-A) and Trenton.  He was 0-1 with a 9.42 ERA in 15 games for the Thunder.  He went 2-2 with a 2.27 ERA in 29 games for the Yankees.  Kroenke was originally a fifth round selection by the Yankees in the 2005 draft.
 
Trenton and Reading finish up a four-game series on Monday night from First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA. Game time is 7:05 p.m. RHP Tyson Brummett (2-6, 6.57) will start for Reading against Zambrano. Trenton returns to Waterfront Park to start a three-game series on Tuesday night against the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.  Game time on Tuesday is set for 7:05 p.m.
