Oakland A's Recall Infielder Gregorio Petit From Sacramento River Cats

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s today reinstated first baseman Daric Barton from the 15-day disabled list, recalled infielder Gregorio Petit from Triple-A Sacramento and placed right-handed pitcher Andrew Brown on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 26 with right shoulder soreness.

Barton was placed on the disabled list on July 19 retroactive to July 14 with a neck strain, his first career stint on the DL.  He was sent to Sacramento on a rehab assignment on July 24 and hit .194 with a home run and three RBI in eight games with the River Cats.  Barton was batting .224 with three home runs and 25 RBI in 89 games with Oakland before the injury and was hitting .214 with no extra base hits over his last 27 games.

Petit joins the A’s for the third time this year and is hitting .348 in 12 games with Oakland.  He was 6 for 18 (.333) in 10 games during his first stint from May 16 to June 19 and then went 2 for 5 (.400) in two games during his second stint from July 5 to 16.  Petit went 6 for 34 (.176) in nine games with Sacramento following his option on July 17 and was batting .285 with no home runs and 25 RBI in 58 games overall with the River Cats.

Brown goes on the disabled list for the second time this year as he was also on from May 14 to June 7 after undergoing an

appendectomy.  He is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 31 relief appearances with the A’s this year and had a 3.78 ERA in 14 outings following his return from the DL on June 8.

The A’s have now used the disabled list 20 times in 2008, which is two short of the Oakland record of 22 that was set in 1992 and matched last year.  Oakland currently has five players on the DL as Brown joins Eric Chavez, Joey Devine, Keith Foulke and Mike Sweeney.  The A’s have had at least four players on the DL every day since May 14 and at least three every day since the start of the 2007 season.
