From Indies to MiLB: Pat Mahomes' American Association Contract Bought by the Toronto Blue Jays

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

SIOUX FALLS, SD (August 23, 2007) – The Sioux Falls Canaries have sold the contract of ace RHP Pat Mahomes to the Toronto Blue Jays organization.  Mahomes will report to the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs.

“Pat has been a fantastic team player for us both on and off the field this season,” said Canaries Manager Steve Shirley.  “He has more than held up his end of the bargain, and I am happy that his hard work has paid off with an opportunity with the Blue Jays.”

Mahomes’ season was highlighted by selections to both the mid-season and post-season American Association All-Star clubs.  Pat tied Canaries club records in two different triple crown categories, matching Scott Martin’s 2001 win total with 12 and Jamie Ybarra’s 1994 strikeout total with 109.  Mahomes was first in the American Association in wins and innings pitched, second in strikeouts, tied for second in complete games and fifth in earned run average at the time he was signed by the Blue Jays.  Mahomes was also honored twice by PA-Sportsticker, the league’s official statistician, as the American Association Player of the Week.  Pat was scheduled to make one more start for the Canaries on Saturday evening.  The Canaries have not yet named a replacement for Saturday’s start.
