Manchester, NH. The ABA Manchester Millrats, coming off an emotional opening night win 127-112 over the Boston Blizzard, announced the signing of 5'11 guard Anthony Anderson. Anderson was a four year starter for the UMass Minutemen from 2001-2005. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.5 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game over his college career. While playing in the Atlantic-10, Anderson accumulated numerous awards and honors including Atlantic-10 Pre Season 2nd Team, various Atlantic-10 Player of the Week nominations, Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Year and left his mark all over the UMass record books.
Anderson hails from nearby Lynn, MA where he was a star player for Lynn-English High School, and earned All New England honors. His celebrity had reached almost cult-like status in the city of Lynn after his summer league heroics became the stuff of streetball legend. This August, Anderson led the local Lynn squad to a championship of the Hoganz Basketball Classic. With his team trailing by double digits with just two minutes left, Anderson singlehandedly brought his team back with dazzling offensive manuvers and deep treys. His triple at the buzzer lifted Lynn to a one point win. Earlier in the tournament, Anderson torched the Detroit Pistons guard Will Blalock for 51 points.
Having made the decision to enter the professional ranks this fall, Anderson first signed with the London Capital Paws of the British Basketball League. After a 32 point game for the Paws, he decided to return home to play for the Millrats. Anderson was on the injured reserve for the Millrats inauguaral home opener with a bruised collar bone. The Millrats are optimistic that he will see action in Saturday's game versus Halifax.
"Anthony give us another super-talened point guard who can also break down the defense and really light up the scoreboard," stated Millrats GM Ian McCarthy.
