Guard Ryan Diggs Returns to the Bellingham Slam for Rest of Season

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham Slam have announced that 2008 All-Star guard Ryan Diggs has returned to the team after completing his season with the NBA Development League's Utah Flash. Diggs will be in uniform for the Slam's next game, on the road Friday against the Edmonton Energy.

Diggs, 25, was Bellingham's leading scorer during their 2008 International Basketball League championship season, with 25.8 points per game. He was a starter in the IBL All-Star game in June, and was named MVP of the Western Conference playoff tournament. Diggs scored in double figures in every game last season for the Slam, and also recorded a triple double of 25 points, 13 assists and ten rebounds on April 11, 2008 against Portland.

Diggs spent nearly the entire 2008-09 NBA Development League season with Utah, where he appeared in 43 games and averaged 4.0 points and 1.4 assists. Utah advanced to the 2009 D-League championship series, before losing 2-0 to the Colorado 14ers. Diggs, along with current Slam player Steve Newman, made it onto the Flash roster after an impressive showing at a free agent tryout camp last fall.

At Western Washington, Diggs was a four-year starter and averaged 21.6 points per game during his senior season, including a school-record 47 points against Humboldt State in the semi-finals of the 2006 NCAA Division-II West Region Tournament. Diggs finished his college career second among WWU's career leaders in points with 1,783. After leaving the Vikings and prior to joining the Slam in 2008, Diggs played professionally for two seasons in Holland and Cyprus.

Diggs will surely be an asset for the Slam as they face three tough road games to start off the second half of their schedule. After two games this weekend against the Energy in Edmonton, the Slam head south to take on the Vancouver Volcanoes on May 23. The Slam won't return home until May 25, when they take on the Vancouver, B.C. Titans in their second annual Memorial Day game. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
