all star Michael Jones has signed to play for the Snohomish County Explosion
coming out of retirement.
Jones a 6'10" center, played for the Explosion in 2007 and 2008 and retired
early in the 2009 season. Coach Chris Weakley played with Jones both of
those years and with the announcement of Ike Ohanson at center there was a
need for another big center. "Mike is another big body that can play the
new look offense and we needed another large center" said Weakley. Jones
will be back wearing his famous #55 jersey this weekend for the BC titans.
In his senior year at Cascade, he was named 1996 Snohomish County Prep
Basketball Player of the Year by the Daily Herald. That same year Jones
earned Wesco South Player of the year honors with his school record for most
points scored in one season (444) and most single season field goals (193).
Jones went on to play for two years at Edmonds Community College as team
co-captain. In the 97-98 season he averaged 17 points and six rebounds per
game and played in the NWACC league All Star Game. Jones transferred to the
University of Alaska- Fairbanks , red-shirting in the 98-99 season and
playing in 2000.
"Its great to bring back Mike," exclaimed Sean Keck, general manager of the
Explosion. "Players like Mike do all the hard work and get little attention
but having him back gives us veteran leadership in the locker room and on
the court to join our young super stars."
The Explosion are currently 5-6 on the season and look forward to redeeming
themselves at home. The young talented team has nine games left in the
season with seven of them at home. The Explosion look to the Monroe Sports
Arena and the home town fans to return on May 30th against the Vancouver
Titans.
