Orlando Predators Beef Up Defense - AFL
Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 04:17PM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Orlando – The Orlando Predators made roster moves today hoping to add a stronger defensive threat, sending DB Damon Mason to Utah for DL Rob Schroeder.
“Damon is a great player and has done everything we asked him to,” said head coach Jay Gruden. “We just felt we needed another player to rush the passer and we have Jason Perry who’s a young up and coming talent.”
Schroeder spent the 2007 season with the Austin Wranglers before joining the Blaze this season. In 15 games with Austin, he finished with 18 tackles, 4.5 sacks, seven pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. The 6’2 245 pound defensive lineman played collegiate ball at Buffalo.
Orlando also signed former UCF standout DE Elton Patterson. He most recently spent time in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“We’ve been trying to sign Elton for some time, he just kept getting signed to NFL rosters,” said Gruden. “We’re excited to have another pass rusher like B. J. Cohen who will hit the quarterback.”
During his senior year at UCF, Patterson was an all conference selection posting 63 tackles with 16.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. The 6’2 260 pound defensive end was selected in the 2003 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals as a 7th round pick.
