San Jose SaberCats Make Some Moves - AFL

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - SAN JOSE, Calif. (Mar. 20, 2008) – Veteran Arena Football League defensive back KELVIN HUNTER, who played against San Jose in ArenaBowl XVIII as a member of the Arizona Rattlers, today joined the defending AFL champions signing a free agent contract, Head Coach and General Manager Darren Arbet announced.

Hunter (5-10, 180) has played with five teams during his seven-year AFL career amassing 11 interceptions, 54 pass breakups and 257.0 tackles. His finest season came in 2006 when he led the expansion Utah Blaze with four interceptions, 17 pass breakups and 64.0 total tackles in 14 games. One of his interceptions came against the SaberCats in that season’s opening game.

The former University of Arizona Wildcat has also been with the Chicago Rush (2001), Arizona (2002-04) and New Orleans VooDoo (2006).

Hunter is expected to be in uniform for San Jose on Saturday when the SaberCats battle the undefeated Dallas Desperados (3-0) in HP Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.

The SaberCats also placed offensive lineman CHRIS PINO on injured reserve after the rookie sustained a severe left knee injury in the third quarter of the team’s 63-43 win over Arizona on March 15.

SaberCats’ kicker A.J. HAGLUND was tabbed ‘Special Teams Player of the Week’ by OurSports Central after making a team record-tying four field goals (33, 18, 24, 17) in his four attempts and extending his streak of consecutive regular season made PATs to 42 with a 7-for-7 effort last Saturday in a 63-43 win over Arizona. Haglund’s 19 points also established a new San Jose record for kick scoring, breaking the 1999 mark of 18 set by Carlos Huerta, which also came against the Rattlers.
