Wichita Wild Ink Two Players

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League has re-signed two more players that contributed to the team?s Central Division Championship in 2010.  Players agreeing to re-join the team were wide receiver Carlos Cavanaugh and defensive lineman Teon Wilson.

Cavanaugh is entering his third season of professional football in Wichita.  In 2009, Cavanaugh finished second on the team in receptions and receiving yards with 52 for 529 yards.  Cavanaugh also caught nine touchdowns which was second most on the team.

In 2008 he caught 24 passes for 336 yards for the Wild.  Cavanaugh caught 11 touchdown passes which led the team and was 10th in the league.  Cavanaugh also averaged 24.9 yards per kick return.   Cavanaugh spent training camp in 2007 with the Omaha Beef of the IFL.  He suffered a hamstring injury two days before the season started and missed the entire campaign.

Cavanaugh's final season of playing college football was in 2004 at West Texas A & M.  Before joining the Buffaloes, Cavanaugh played at Kilgore Junior College (TX).  The Ft. Worth, TX native played quarterback for the Rangers during the 2002 and 2003 seasons.

Wilson will be playing in his third season of indoor football and second with the Wild.  In 2009, Wilson finished 7th on the team in tackles with 32.  He recorded 8.5 tackles for loss, which ranked third on the team.  Wilson spent part of 2008 with the Sioux City Bandits of the IFL.  Wilson played in three games before being injured and lost for the season.

Wilson's senior year of college was in 2006 and he played at Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO.  Wilson let the Heart of America Conference with 12 sacks during the campaign and was named to the All-Conference team.  Before attending Central Methodist, Wilson served his country in Iraq for a year.  Wilson played at Central Missouri State and East Central Community College before joining the military.

The coaching staff of the Wichita Wild worked out 51 players on Sunday at Hartman Arena at the team?s first open tryout of the offseason.  Players were evaluated on 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, vertical jump, agility, and various position specific drills.

Players traveled from all over the country to participate including 18 former NCAA Division I and II players.

Head Coach Ken Matous was impressed with the talent of all that participated.  "We are definitely a better team today then we were before the tryout." said Matous.  "On Sunday we found some guys that will make our final roster and I am excited to bring them back and see them work out again."

Also at the open tryout, Ashley Anderson and Traci Nigg kicked field goals as part of the Kicks for a Cure fundraiser.  Anderson and Nigg made 16 field goals resulting in a $1,600 donation from Wild owner Wink Hartman to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
