MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - LAREDO , TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Monday the signing of rookie defenseman David Victor for the 2007-08 season.

Victor was in training camp with the Alaska Aces and was released late last week, making him available for any team to sign him. He arrived in Laredo on Saturday.

“I was after David all summer long to come here, but he decided to go to Alaska . As soon as I heard he was released I jumped on the opportunity to get him”, said Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski. “I spoke to him on the phone a couple of times, and I really liked his personality”.

Last season Victor, a native of The Pas, Manitoba , played for Acadia University in Canada . He played in 26 games, scoring two goals, with two assists for four points, while picking up 51 penalty minutes.

“David is a big, steady player who is strong in the corner”, Ruskowski said. “He moves the puck well, we are happy to have him here”.

Victor played in two different junior league’s, in the MJHL with the OCN Blizzard, where he was a teammate of Bucks rookie Matt Summers, and in the QMJHL where he played two seasons for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Combined, Victor played in 159 junior games, scoring 14 goals, with 32 assists, for 46 points, and 315 penalty minutes.

With the addition of Victor the Bucks now have 22 players on their training camp roster, and need to make their final cuts by Thursday, the day before the season opener in New Mexico . One of those cuts will be at the goaltender position, with Kevin Beech and Ryan Senft battling to be the second goaltender. Dustin Traylen will likely be the number one goalie this season.

“I will probably make the goalie cut after Tuesday’s practice”, said Ruskowski. “I’m still torn, both guys (Beech and Senft) have played well in camp, I wish I could keep three goalies”.
