MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – BILOXI, MS – The Mississippi Sea Wolves announced on Wednesday that they have acquired defenseman Matthew Deschamps (deh-SHOMP) from the Phoenix RoadRunners in exchange for undisclosed financial considerations, and that Deschamps has signed with the team for the 2007-08 season.
“Matthew Deschamps is a player with a great college pedigree and solid professional experience,” stated Sea Wolves head coach Steffon Walby. “We expect him to add depth and experience to our defensive corps this season.”
Deschamps played four seasons of college hockey from 2001-05 at the University of Maine, appearing in 111 games, scoring three goals and 13 assists. The 6-0, 195-pounder appeared in four regular season games and three Kelly Cup Playoff games with Atlantic City in 2004-05 after completing his college career. Deschamps spent 2005-06 with the ECHL’s Fresno Falcons, scoring 11 points (2g, 9a) in 63 regular season games, and notched one assist in six Kelly Cup Playoff contests. The Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-native also appeared in two games with the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League during 2005-06. Deschamps appeared in 12 games with Charlotte, notching two assists, before finishing the year with the Phoenix RoadRunners, where he posted nine points (2g, 7a) in 39 games.
