San Antonio Rampage Sign LW David Spina For One Year - AHL

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - SAN ANTONIO (September 13, 2007) – The San Antonio Rampage announced today that the club has signed left wing David Spina to a one-year American Hockey League (AHL) contract.

Spina, 24, was raised and resides in Mesa , Arizona . He played hockey as a youngster in the Phoenix Junior Roadrunners program. Spina later attended Red Mountain High School in Mesa for a year before playing junior hockey for the Texas Tornadoes of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and spending a season with the U.S. National Development Program.

Spina registered 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists) and 80 penalty minutes (PIM) in 73 games with the AHL’s Springfield Falcons last season. The 5-foot-10, 185 pound forward also collected six points (4g, 2a) and four PIM in six games with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL.

Spina made his professional debut with the Utah Grizzlies, then the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate, near the end of the 2004-05 campaign. He played nine games for Utah following the completion of his senior season at Boston College .

In four seasons at Boston College , Spina compiled 103 points (49g, 54a) in 138 games. He ranked third on the team in scoring during his 2004-05 senior campaign with 28 points (13g, 15a) in 40 games. Spina was named to the 2001-02 Hockey East All-Rookie Team as he collected 13-13-26 in 36 games as a freshman.

Prior to college, Spina posted 38 points (12g, 26a) with the U.S. National Under-18 Team in 2000-01. He was named one of Team USA’s top three players after scoring 7 points (2g, 5a) in six games at the 2001 IIHF World Under-18 Championships in Finland.

The Arizonan posted 17-34-51 in 61 NAHL games for the Texas Tornadoes in 1999-2000 and was named the team’s Rookie of the Year.
