The Cape Cod Frenzy Can't Make Comeback in 138-121 Loss to the Vermont Frost Heaves - ABA

MLN Newswire- www.mlntherawfeed.com- Sandwich, Massachusetts: The Vermont Frost Heaves jumped on the Cape Cod Frenzy early, and despite a ‘frenzied’ comeback attempt by Cape Cod, Vermont held on for a 138-121 win.  The Frost Heaves were led by the hot three point shooting of guard Aaron Cook who had 24 points on 6 of 9 from behind the arc, Tyrone Levett with 18 points, and six other players in double figures.  Balanced scoring was a key to the Vermont victory.

Things started going wrong for the Frenzy even before the game’s opening tip: their star forward Rob Sanders injured his quadricep doing a dunk while in the layup line!  And if that wasn’t bad enough, two starters had to be removed from the starting lineup due to conduct detrimental to the team (Steve Hailey and Dustin Hellenga).

With only two regular starters in the starting lineup, Cape Cod took the court.  The Frost Heaves immediately went to work, hitting four three pointers and one two pointer to go up 14-0 to start the game.  The Frenzy players looked rattled and confused while Vermont’s execution and pinpoint passing continued to find open three point shooters, who kept knocking them down.

Once Cape Cod showed signs of cracking, the Frost Heaves’ full court press showed no mercy.  Turnovers led to layups, dunks, and three pointers in a barrage of offense by Vermont, eventually extending to a 46 point second quarter lead.

The Frenzy players went into halftime with a lot to talk about.  In the second half, the Frenzy came out in a 3-2 zone defense and utilized a 4 guard lineup.  It was the first time the Frenzy had played zone all season.  Their players continued pressing and fighting and scraping until the 46 point lead was whittled down to as low as 16 in the fourth quarter.  They did not quit until the final clock read zero and the final score was 138-121.
