Another Double-Double From Miguel Milliem Leads Strong Island Sound Over The Quebec City Kebekwa 120-111 - ABA

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Selden, NY- Miguel ‘Slim’ Milliem had his second consecutive double-double and led the Strong Island Sound to a 120-111 victory over the Quebec City Kebekwa at Suffolk Community College. Coming off the bench at the start of the second quarter with his team down by three, Milliem ignited the Sound and the crowd with high-flying slams and blocks. But things did not appear to be going the home team’s way at the start of the contest.

The Kebs scored the first 10 points of the game before the Sound got on the board. As the quarter moved along, Strong Island closed the gap to three and the score was 35-32 after one. The second quarter was arguably the best of the season by the Sound, who outscored the visiting club 37-23 and led at halftime, 69-58. Milliem was a human highlight film, scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 blocks in the second quarter.

Quebec City went on an 11-0 run to start the third quarter and took a two-point lead before Brian Woodward (24 points on 8 for 16 shooting) broke the ice. The Kebs were outscoring the Sound 27-9 in the third quarter before the home team found their touch from the outside. Tommie ‘Gunzz’ Eddie (12 points, 8 rebounds4 assists) and Sean Dantzler (13 points) hit three-point shots. Quebec went ahead by three when Eddie hit a shot from downtown at the buzzer to tie the score at 92 heading into the final quarter.

“That was a big shot by Eddie to get us even heading into the fourth,” said Sound head coach Dytanya Mixson. “Our entire bench made a difference. They bring intensity.”

Milliem (30 points on 11for 15 shooting, 15 rebounds, 9 blocks) was all over the court and was instrumental in giving the Sound second opportunities with his 9 offensive rebounds. Woodward and newcomer Aaron Williams solidified the backcourt and the team played tough on both ends as the lead widened. Quebec City could not get closer and the Sound improved to 15-11 with the 120-111 victory. The Kebs’ record fell to 15-9.

“Earlier in the season, I had toe and wrist injuries that held me back,” Milliem said. “Now I’m feeling very comfortable.”

Williams, playing in only his third game with the Sound, scored 17 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Following the game, Williams said, “We got more aggressive and started to get some big stops that we weren’t getting in the first half.”
