Bellingham Slam Nab Number Two Seed in IBL Playoff Tournament

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-BELLINGHAM,Wash.-The Bellingham Slam received a little help from one of their opponents as they have moved up and secured the number two seed in this week’s International Basketball League playoff tournament in Monroe.

The Tacoma Tide defeated the Los Angeles Lightning on Tuesday night, allowing the Slam to move up from the third seed to the second seed.The Edmonton Energy, despite being defeated by the Slam 121-115 on Sunday, claimed the top seed with a 17-3 record.

The IBL playoffs will feature ten teams split into two conferences, American and National. With the number two seed, the Slam have been placed in the American bracket.

The Slam will receive a first round playoff bye and will open with second round action on Thursday at Noon against the winner of Wednesday’s game against the Tacoma Tide and Central Oregon Hotshots.

Should the Slam win on Thursday, they would advance to the American conference championship game against either the Seattle Mountaineers or Los Angeles Lightning on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that game would then advance to the IBL Championship game played two weeks later.

Last season, the Slam breezed through the conference playoffs, defeating Edmonton and Vancouver as the number one seed.Ryan Diggs was named MVP of the 2008 tournament after scoring 50 points in the two games.Bellingham went on to defeat the Elkhart Express, 118-112, in the 2008 IBL Championship Game.
