So Cal Scorpions Win the 2007 Women's Professional Football League Championship -- WPFL

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

San Diego, CA.  -  So Cal knew it and now so does San Diego; they are the champions.
In front of one of the largest crowds in WPFL history, the So Cal Scorpions took on the league three time champion Houston Energy to win the nation wide title; 2007 Champions of the Women’s Professional Football League.
The Scorpions were 2-2 at mid-season and predicted by many to not even make the post season.  When the team lost to the Empire Roar at home back in October28-6, they knew they had to win out even for a chance to make the wild card slot. The won seven straight games, including the AFC championship title against the Empire Roar in New York 42-6 and became the league’s first team to be in a wildcard slot to win the championship title.
“The players are elated. Many of the vets just dropped to their knees in tears after the final whistle Saturday night” stated team owner, Ann Bagala. “The vets have fought for five years to win this title and to see the rookies step up in talent was magical” added Bagala.
One of the stand outs was the team’s running back, #2 Desiree Weimann. Weimann ran for 169 yards on 32 carries and scored the Scorpions first touchdown of the night. Not only did Weimann get the Championship, she was awarded the games MVP award and prior to kick off was awarded the league Howington Award which is the league’s MVP award.
“It doesn’t get any better than this!” claimed a misty-eyed Weimann. “This is something even beyond…anything…any championship, any MVP award, from now or even when I was in high school. This is the top!”
This completes the Scorpions fifth consecutive season, marking them the longest operating women’s professional sports team in San Diego history as well as the only professional football team in San Diego to win a championship title.
