Central Valley Coyotes Hold Final Tryout for 2008 af2 Season Hopefuls

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Several talented athletes gathered at the Velocity Sports Complex in Fresno Saturday, as the Central Valley Coyotes held their final open tryout before the 2008 season.

Velocity’s state of the art facilities provided the hopeful players with excellent equipment and conditions to try to make an impression on the Coyotes coaching staff.

What Bill Costa and his Velocity staff provided here is a reality check for guys who think they can play,” said Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Derrick Chachere. “These players were put through the tests by the same equipment used at the NFL combine. As coaches, the Velocity employees make our job so much easier. They run the entire workout so all we have to do is worry about evaluating the talent. The professionalism and accuracy of Velocity was a huge help to us and I don’t think it can be done any better.”

The tryout did produce two notable assignees who will look to make a significant impact for the Coyotes in 2008. Wide Receiver Nichiren Flowers and defensive lineman Lawrence Ball became the latest additions to the Coyotes roster after their performances at the tryout.

Flowers is a University of Nevada product who spent part of the 2007 season with the Los Angeles Avengers of the AFL. While at Nevada, Flowers was major part of the Wolfpack’s offense which average better than 400 yards per game during his tenure. Flowers’ best season came in 2004 when he hauled in 91 balls for 1126 yards and six touchdowns. The Tulare CA native had six receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown with the Avengers last year.

Ball is a graduate of Edison High School in Fresno and played his College football at the University of Arizona. At 6’4 and 270 pounds Ball should provide depth on the defensive front for the Coyotes this season.

“Flowers is a top notch wide receiver,” said Chachere. “He is a physical and athletic as any wideout there is in the af2 and there really isn’t a limit to what he can do with his talent. Just being able to practice against him day in and day out makes our defense better.”

“Ball is a guy who came to us very highly recommended,” said Chachere. “He has had some bad breaks and just needs an opportunity. His experience indoors is limited, but that’s a good thing for us because he doesn’t have any bad habits to break. Ball is big, strong, and fast, which gives us the ability to create match up problems on defense.”

The Coyotes kickoff the 2008 season with training camp on March 8th, and make their regular season debut on the road against the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings on March 29th.
