St. Louis SLAM Beat Columbus Comets 18-16 - NWFA

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - The St. Louis SLAM, St. Louis’s women’s full contact football team, opened its season in Columbus, Ohio, Saturday April 19th, and earned a huge road win.  The SLAM beat the Columbus Comets, the NWFA league runner up in 2007, 18-16 in a slug fest that was decided in the final seconds of the game.

The SLAM scored first on a 4 yard run by Pat Riggins in the 1st quarter.  Quarterback Liz Lacy passed for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Gail Graff caught a pass in the second quarter for a touch down. Chris Hampton hauled in 6 passes for 96 yards and made a diving catch in the end zone in the third quarter to keep the SLAM on top.

The SLAM defense was stingy and aggressive throughout the game registering 4 quarterback sacks on the night by Jarius Mariama, Liz Williams, Kelly Kozlen, Tiara Pettis and Myrt Davis. Kozlen intercepted a pass that stopped an aggressive Columbus drive while safety Robyn Morrow deflected 6 passes.
