MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –(Central Islip, N.Y., May 10, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks were swept in  their day/night doubleheader on Saturday against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The visitors took a see-saw first game by a 12-8 count, then rallied in the late innings to upend Long Island 4-3 in the nightcap. 
 
The Ducks overcame an early 5-1 deficit in the opener, striking for two in the second, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to claim an 8-7 lead. But the Crabs would rally to tie, then strike for four in the eighth to pull ahead for good. Chad Ehrnsberger connected for a homer for Southern Maryland, part of a 2-for-5, three RBI afternoon. Kyle Nichols added three hits for the Blue Crabs, while Kevin Haverbusch went 4-for-5 with two RBI for the Ducks. 
 
Scott Rice (2-1) took the loss in the first game, while Jason Blanton (1-0) earned the win in relief. Matthew Schweitzer picked up the save. 
 
In the nightcap, the Ducks pounced to an early 3-0 lead. Carl Everett hit an RBI double in the first, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored when P.J. Rose lifted a sacrifice fly to right. The Ducks tacked on a run in the second on Damian Rolls' second home run of the year.  
 
Southern Maryland was held off the scoreboard by Ducks starter Randy Leek until the eighth. The Blue Crabs struck on a two-run home run by Terrence McClain, then plated two more in the ninth to take the lead. The Ducks loaded the bases in the ninth with none out, but Schweitzer entered and struck out the only three batters he faced to earn his second save of the day. Chris Gale (1-1) got the win, while Joe Valentine (0-1) took the loss.
