Sioux City Explorers Steal Game One of Doubleheader Against the St. Paul Saints - Box and Play-by-Play

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Box Score and Play-by-Play attached. - SIOUX CITY, IA -- Alex Llanos continued his hot hitting, with the 2nd walk off HR in 2 days to beat St. Paul 5-4 in Game One while the Saints took the nightcap 3-1 on Monday night at Lewis & Clark Park.

With the score tied at 4-4 and the hard throwing Craig Moldrem on the mound, the game seemed destined for extra innings but Llanos drove a Moldrem pitch over the wall in right to win it for the Explorers.  It was Llanos' 2nd HR of the year and it was the 2nd walkoff in a row for the X's after Chris Grossman beat Lincoln with a 2 run HR in the 9th on Sunday night.

The Saints scored first on a RBI single by Scooter Jordan off of Cameron Cheek in the 3rd but the X's answered in the bottom of the inning with a RBI single by Llanos off of Alec Shepherd to tie it at 1-1.

The Explorers scored 3 runs in the 4th on a 2 out 2 run single by Derek Schermerhorn and a 2 out RBI double by Dustin Jones.  Sioux City had built a 4-1 lead but the Saints tied it in the 4th on a 2 run double by Tim Brown and a RBI hit by Jason Colson.  That would lead to the dramatics by Llanos in the 7th to win it.

SeatSub Challenge 2008 Contest In Game Two, the X's struck early on a RBI single, once again by Llanos off of Saints starter Mitch Wylie, making his first start off of shoulder surgery.  The Saints tied it in the 4th on a RBI single by Colson off of Paige Dumont.

Garvis Romero relieved Dumont in the 5th and got into trouble giving up double, single and single to Ryan Priddy, Scooter Jordan and Julius Thames leading off the 5th to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.

The X's, meanwhile, could do no more against Wylie, who went 4 innings.  Mike Bille pitched 1 1/3 innings and hit Dustin Jones leading off the 6th.  Derek Schermerhorn bunted him over to 2nd.  The Saints brought in their closer Tony Pierce to face Llanos.  Alex would single to left and Jones would try to score but Brent Krause made a perfect throw home to retire Jones.  Pierce would strike out 3 of the last 4 batters to earn the save and the split.

Bille took the win in Game two while Romero got the loss and Pierce earned his 8th save.

Llanos went 4-7 in the doubleheader with 3 RBI.  Jones went 4-6 with 2 doubles, 2 stolen bases, a RBI and a run scored.  Jason Tuttle had to the leave Game One with a strained hamstring and will be evaluated on Tuesday.
