Worcester 4, Brockton 1

Worcester starting pitcher Tom Cochran hurled a gem, allowing just one run on three hits as Worcester topped Brockton 4-1.  Cochran kept his record perfect by striking out nine and walking just one in eight innings of work before handing the game over to John Birtwell who worked a scoreless ninth inning for his sixth save. CF BJ Weed and RF Scott Grimes provided the offense for the Tornadoes as Weed went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Grimes connected for his fifth homer of the season in a 3-for-4 night. Rolando Viera went 5 1/3 innings for Brockton and allowed six hits and three earned runs. His record fell to 1-4 with the loss.

Sussex 8, Nashua 7

Sussex rallied to tie Nashua 7-7 in the ninth inning before an errant pick off attempt at third base went into left field allowing the winning run to trot home and seal an 8-7 Skyhawks win.  With runners at first and third with one out RF Jorge Moreno singled to tie the game.  After an intentional walk loaded the bases, LF Alex Frazier stepped in.  The first pitch from Andrew Weimer was low and Nashua C Luis Rodriguez fired toward third base in an attempt to catch pinch runner Nick Vardaro napping. But the throw landed in left field and Vardaro scored to end the game.  Moreno and 1B Matthew Weston homered in the game which was a back and forth contest.  Matt Petrusek picked up his second win while Weimer suffered the blown save and took the loss to fall to 0-1.

Quebec 11, Ottawa 3

Luis Valdez improved to 5-0 as he pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs in Quebec’s 11-3 triumph over OttawaQuebec led the whole way in this one as 1B Pat Scalabrini’s RBI triple highlighted a two-run first inning.  Scalabrini increased the lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning when he homered for the fourth time this year. The Capitales led 5-3 in the ninth inning when they erupted for six runs to put the game away. All told Quebec put 18 hits on the board and three starters had three hits in the contest. 2B Josh Colafemina finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored while CF Mike Goss was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two batted in.

Atlantic City 9,  New Jersey 5

The Atlantic City Surf rallied from a 5-4 deficit with two runs in the eighth inning and three more in the ninth to top New Jersey 9-5.  Walker Whitley pitched just one inning but got his first win of the year while Kyle George shut down the Jackals offense in the final two innings to earn his first save.  A RBI double by Atlantic City C William Plaza tied the game at five before 1B Eddie Kim scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-5 Surf.  Five hits in the ninth inning including doubles by SS Anthony Granato and DH Billy Kovatch put the game out of reach.
