Schaumburg Flyers Anthony Boughner Shuts Down Kansas City T-Bones Offense for 5-0 Win - Northern League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - KANSAS CITY , Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones lost the first game of their three-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers tonight, 5-0, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

In front of 4,822 fans, Anthony Boughner of Kansas City and Brad Mumma of the Flyers held their opposition scoreless for the first three innings before Schaumburg scored their first two runs of the game.

The Flyers got their leadoff hitter on in the fourth when Mark Haske singled to begin the inning and was sacrificed to second by Jermaine Allensworth. Haske was quickly caught stealing third for the second out of the frame. The next two batters, Vince Harrison and Peanut Williams, hit back-to-back home runs to put the Flyers up 2-0.

That was all Boughner would allow as he surrendered eight hits while striking out three and walking one over seven innings. With the loss, the left-hander fell to 4-3 on the season.

Mumma was stellar for Schaumburg as the left-hander allowed just five hits while striking out five and walking one in a shutout effort. He sat the T-Bones down in order in six of his nine innings of work, including a perfect third when he struck out all three batters he faced. He had four consecutive perfect innings from the fifth thru eighth. At one point, Mumma retired 13 in-a-row as he improved to 3-3 on the season.

Mumma threw 110 pitches on the night, 70 of them for strikes.

The Flyers used two hits, a balk and an error to score three runs, two earned, off Brady Martinez in the ninth to open their lead to five. Martinez allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits as he finished the final two innings for Kansas City.

Ken Harvey singled for his first hit as a T-Bone in the second inning of the contest.
