Pensacola Pelicans Fall Short to Grand Prairie AirHogs 5-4
Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 11:12AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - The Pensacola Pelicans (18-20) would fall short 5-4 to the Grand Prairie AirHogs (18-20) on Family Night at Pelican Park. John Webb pitched well for eight innings but would take the loss as the AirHogs would chip away at the lead and score three runs in the final two frames.
The AirHogs would strike first as they would score two in the top half of the third inning. Base hits by Aaron Garza, Noel Trevino and Billy Munoz would load the bases. Edwin Maldonado would then knock a two-run double off the base of the wall in right center to score Garza and Trevino.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Matt Pali began the Pelicans scoring with a solo blast to right field, his fourth homerun of the season. Chris Reynolds and Ricardo Cordova quickly followed with back-to-back base hits to put runners on the corners. Dylan Parzyk then reached by an AirHogs error, scoring Reynolds to tie the game at two. The Pels took the lead when Cesar Aranguren hit a groundball to shortstop Brandon Carter who made a poor flip to second base allowing Cordova to give the Pelicans the 3-2 lead.
Grand Prairie tacked on two runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Pelicans. A single by JB Tucker and a double down the right field line by Brandon Carter put runners on second and third. Next batter Drew Holder would hit a weak, shallow fly ball that would land just beyond the cut of the infield in right to score Tucker and Carter and give the AirHogs the lead. That would be the end of the night for John Webb as Donny Langdon would come in to retire the next batter.
On the night, Webb went eight innings allowing four runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts.
In the top of the ninth for the AirHogs, they would add one run on three hits to extend their lead to two making it 5-3.
The Pels would cut down the lead to one in the bottom of the ninth as Aranguren would score to make it 5-4. Aranguren would reach base on a line drive up the middle to lead off the inning. He would advance to third on two wild pitches by Geivy Garcia and score on a ground out to second by Francisco Leandro.
Cory Walters will take the mound tomorrow night for the series opener against the Fort Worth Cats.
