The Sioux City Explorers scored four big runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie and beat the Sioux Falls Canaries. The Canaries will need to win one of their remaining four games, all against the St. Paul Saints, to win the first half North Division crown. Batter of the Week Alex Llanos had a huge day at the plate for the Explorers going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. 1B Derek Schermerhorn and SS Nick McCoola each chipped in with two-hit afternoons as well for Sioux City. Explorers reliever Tony O’Donnell pitched a solid eighth inning and collected the win, his second of the year. Sioux Falls C Paul Smyth went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

St. Paul RF Brent Krause was a one-man wrecking crew as he went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, three runs scored and eight RBI. The Saints tallied 23 hits in the contest, led by LF Kevin Sullivan who was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and a pair of RBI. Including Sullivan, three separate St. Paul hitters recorded four hits in the game. All that run support made life easy for Saints starter Charlie Ruud.
