American Association Recap for June 26th

Shreveport 9, Pensacola 0

@ Shreveport, LA.  Time: 2:20 Attendance: 1,475

W: Justin Phillips (2-5) L: TJ Hendricks (0-1) S: None

HR: None

Justin Phillips tossed a complete game five-hit shutout as the Sports beat Pensacola 9-0. Phillips struck out six and walked two to improve his record to 2-5 on the year.  Shreveport racked up 14 hits and got production from up and down their batting order. SS Wade Robinson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while LF Terrence McClain scored twice and finished 2-for-4. Not to be outdone, DH Justin Humphries had two hits and three RBI and 1B Richard Quihuis-Bell finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four driven in.  TJ Hendricks lasted just four innings for the Pelicans and fell to 0-1.

Grand Prairie 4, Lincoln 2

@ Lincoln, NE   Time: 2:30 Attendance: 3,091

HR: GP- Brandon Carter (1), Noel Trevino (2)

Grand Prairie used a pair of solo home runs and a solid outing from Jose Cordero to take the first meeting between the two clubs by a 4-2 final.  2B Noel Trevino hit his second homer of the year in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1 before Brandon Carter left the yard in the fifth to give the AirHogs the lead for good.  Grand Prairie added a couple insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings before closer James Morrison worked the bottom of the ninth for his eighth save.

Sioux Falls 6, St. Paul 2

@ Sioux Falls, SD.   Time: 2:05 Attendance: 3,441

HR: STP- Heath Keel (1); SF- Grant Richardson 2(4), Patrick Reilly (8)

Sioux Falls clinched the first half title in the North Division with a 6-2 home victory over the St. Paul Saints.  3B Grant Richardson was the offensive star of the game as he homered twice, once in the bottom of the first inning to give the Canaries an early 1-0 lead, and a three-run blast in the fifth to give Sioux Falls a commanding 6-0 lead. 1B Patrick Reilly also went deep for the Canaries, hitting his eighth of the year. Ben Moore went six strong innings and surrendered just two runs on two hits to up his mark to 5-3 on the campaign. RF Heath Keel homered for the Saints in a losing effort.

El Paso 4, Fort Worth 3

@ El Paso, TX.   Time: 2:34 Attendance: 3,193

HR: None

El Paso rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to stun Fort Worth 4-3.  Michael Cervera worked a rocky ninth inning for his fifth save in relief of Josh Neitz who went eight strong innings and improved his record to 5-4.  In the home half of the eighth inning LF Alex Derhak and 3B JD Reininger had RBI singles to trim the Cats lead to 3-2 before CF Kory Drew’s broken bat blooper to right center field plated two runs for the Diablos and gave El Paso a 4-3 advantage. Fort Worth loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth but Cervera struck out the final two batters to seal the win.
