MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - AUGUSTA, N.J. - Shortstop Kevin Rios' RBI-double in the sixth proved to be the difference as the Sussex Skyhawks took a 5-4 win and completed a series sweep over the Atlantic City Surf on Sunday afternoon at Skylands Park. With the score tied 4-4 and centerfielder Ron Perodin on first base, Rios lined a double to the left centerfield gap allowing Perodin to score and giving Sussex a 5-4 lead. Sussex reliever James Douglas threw three scoreless innings to earn the save and preserve the victory for Sussex starter Mark Michael (1-2), who went six innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. The Skyhawks (19-17) got on the board in the bottom of the first when Matt Weston stroked a bases-loaded-double to right centerfield to give Sussex an early 2-0 lead. Atlantic City (17-19) responded in the top of the second with a Josh Burrus RBI-triple and a Gil Zayas sacrifice fly to tie the game 2-2. Atlantic City took the lead in the top of the third inning when Billy Kovatch drove in Anthony Granato to make it 3-2.

Sussex tied it up 3-3 in the bottom of the third with a Chris Brown RBI-single to center. Left fielder Alex Frazier snapped a 3-3 tie when he led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run to left. The Surf tied it up 4-4 in the top of the sixth behind Zayas' second sacrifice fly of the afternoon. Atlantic City starter Aaron Easton (1-3) went 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits and took the loss. Atlantic City returns to action Monday at Nashua. After a day off Monday, Sussex hosts Ottawa on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the first game of a three-game series.
