Newark Bears Pound Long Island Ducks 10-4 - Atlantic League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Central Islip, N.Y. – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Newark Bears on Saturday 10-4 before a sellout crowd of 6,106 at Citibank Park.

The Bears scored single runs in the sixth and eighth, and three runs in the ninth, to turn a 5-4 edge into a 10-4 cushion. Newark also broke from the gates early, plating two in the first and two more in the third to build an early 4-1 lead. Cory Aldridge led the way for the defending league champs with a 3-for-4 ADVERTISEMENT night at the plate, driving in three runs. Randall Simon went 2-for-5 with three RBI and shortstop Ramon Castro picked up three hits.

The Ducks were led by Carl Everett, who launched his 10^th home run of the year in the fourth, an inning in which Long Island scored three times to cut the Bears’ lead to one. Dennis Donovan and Estee Harris each had two hits and an RBI.

Cory Willey (5-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing just one hit over three innings. J.J. Trujillo allowed one hit over the final two innings to notch his third save. Jon Asahina (1-1) took the loss in his first start for Long Island, giving up four runs on five hits over three innings of work.

The Ducks wrap up their four-game series on Sunday against Newark. First pitch is slated for 1:35 p.m., and the Citibank Park gates open at 12:35 p.m. The first 1,500 fans to the ballpark will receive Kitchen Mitts, courtesy of Consumers Kitchen & Bath Specialists.
