American Association Recap for Week of June 8th

St. Paul 9, Wichita 7

The St. Paul Saints scored four big runs in the sixth inning to overcome a
6-5 deficit and beat the Wichita Wingnuts by two. Saints 3B Ben Thomas and
2B Julius Thames each had two-hit days with both scoring two runs and
driving in another. Kyle Foster won the game in relief for St. Paul as he
hurled 2 1/3 terrific innings without allowing a hit while striking out
two. Saints closer Tony Pierce allowed a run in the ninth inning but
struck out the side and notched his seventh save of the year.

El Paso 11, Fort Worth 10

The El Paso Diablos stood off a late furious rally by the Fort Worth Cats
to win by a run. The Diablos held a 8-2 lead after six innings of play and
seemed to be in control of the game. However, the Cats scored three runs
in the seventh and three more in the eighth to tie the game up at 8-8. El
Paso scored three runs in the top of the ninth to go up 11-8 and had to
hold on in the bottom half to edge the Cats by a run. LF JD Reininger went
2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI to lead El Paso
offensively. In the losing effort for Fort Worth, 1B Jake Gautreau had a
3-for-5 afternoon with two runs scored and five RBI.

Sioux Falls 7, Sioux City 5

Sioux Falls rolled out to a 4-0 lead after three innings and would cruise
from there to victory over Sioux City. RF Ben Van Iderstine led the way
offensively for the Canaries as he went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two
runs driven in. Sioux Falls LF Beau Torbert chipped in with a 1-for-4
night with a home run and two runs scored. Canaries starter Travis Kane
moved his record to 3-1 with the win going 5 2/3 innings allowing four
earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Sioux Falls closer Kris
Regas pitched a solid ninth inning to collect his league leading 10th
save.

Grand Prairie 9, Pensacola 2

Grand Prairie C JB Tucker was the star of stars tonight as he led the
AirHogs to a 9-2 win over the Pensacola Pelicans. Tucker on the night was
3-for-5 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI.
Grand Prairie starter Kieran Mattison is now 4-1 on the year as he pitched
5 2/3 innings allowing only one earned run on six hits with two walks and
two punchouts. Pensacola leadoff hitter Chris Reynolds had a three-hit
night in the losing cause.

Shreveport 3, Lincoln 1 (10 innings)

RF Chad Gambill's two-run shot in the 10th inning was the difference in
helping Shreveport past the Lincoln Saltdogs. This game featured a
terrific pitcher's duel between Shreveport's Russell Savickas and
Lincoln's Ryan Trytten. Savickas went eight innings allowing one earned
run, a second inning solo home run to the Saltdogs' DH Mario Delgado, on
three hits with six strikeouts. Trytten, on the other hand, pitched seven
innings giving up one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts.
Neither one, however, factored in the decision.  It was the Sports' Aaron
Cunningham who came away the winner as he pitched a scoreless ninth inning
and is now 2-1 on the season.
