Gateway Grizzlies Hold Off Florence Freedom 10-8 - Frontier League

FLORENCE, Ky. - The Gateway Grizzlies escaped with a 10-8 victory Sunday afternoon, to sweep a three-game series from the Florence Freedom in Florence, KY.

The Grizzlies (8-10) led 10-0 heading into the home half of the eighth inning, when the Freedom bats erupted for eight runs on 10 hits off of three Grizzlies pitchers.  Jeff Landry hit the first of three home runs in the inning to chase starter Adam Revelette.  Landry’s home run was a three-run homer to left. Ryan Basham hit a three-run homer in the inning and Garth McKinney hit a two-run shot.

Revelette, making a spot start, earned the win allowing just the three runs on six hits over 7.1 innings.  He struck out four for his first win of the year.  He is now 1-0.

Eric Ridener tossed the ninth to earn his second save of the year.  Ridener allowed a hit, but struck out two to close out the game.

Ryne Malone paced the Grizzlies offense.  Malone became just the third player in Grizzlies history to have five hits in a game.  He was 5-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.  Stephen Holdren was 3-4 with a pair of RBIs.  Holdren hit his league-leading sixth home run of the year in the fifth inning.  Mike Breyman was 2-5 with a three-run home run and four RBIs.

The Grizzlies enjoy an off-day Monday before returning to action Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark.  The Chillicothe Paints come to town to begin a three-game series at GCS.  Game time Tuesday night is 7:05 p.m.
