Sioux Falls Canaries Defeat Sioux City Explorers 7-5 - American Association

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – SIOUX CITY, IA -- Trailing 6-0, the X's tried to come back but fall 1 run short as Sioux Falls takes game 3 of the series 7-5 at Lewis & Clark Park on Sunday night.

The Birds built a big lead, scoring 3 runs in the first on a walk, HBP, 2 sacrifice flies, a wild pitch and a RBI single.  Beau Torbert hit his 6th HR of the year leading off the 3rd.  Tim Hutting would get a RBI double in the 4th and Ben Van Iderstine had a RBI single in the 5th.  All 6 runs were scored off of X's starter Tim Layden.

Meanwhile, the X's could do nothing against Travis Kane until the 6th.

Jason Tuttle started the rally with an infield single and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch.  After Nick McCoola bounced out, Anton French drove in Tuttle with a RBI single.  Chris Grossman would walk and Juan Camacho would double to right, scoring French.  Alex Llanos would bring home Grossman on a grounder and Luke Hetherington singled home Camacho.  The X's had pulled back into the game and now only trailed 6-4.

Sioux City would tack on another run in the 8th on a RBI fielders choice by Derek Schermerhorn and that cut the lead to just 1.

However, the Canaries got some insurance, with an unearned run in the top of the 9th and Canaries closer Kris Regas earned his league leading 10th save, retiring Sioux City in order.

Alex Llanos went 3-4 with a RBI.  Juan Camacho went 2-4 with a RBI.  Derek Schermerhorn got his 4th hit in his 4th start.  Jason Tuttle went 2-4 with a run.  Paige Dumont pitched 3 scoreless innings of relief, only allowing 1 hit.
