Sioux Falls Canaries Infielder Grant Richardson, Shreveport Sports LHP Justin Phillips Honored by American Association

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - DURHAM, NC – PA-Sportsticker, the American Association’s official statistician, has named Sioux Falls Canaries INF Grant Richardson and Shreveport Sports LHP Justin Phillips as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.
 

Richardson is the fifth Sioux Falls player to receive a player of the week award this season.  In seven games this past week, the Canaries third basemen hit .500 with five home runs, 11 RBI, 10 runs scored and 13 hits. Richardson also collected four doubles, slugged 1.231 and had a .517 on-base percentage. The Richland, WA resident is batting .364 on the season with seven home runs, 40 RBI, 43 runs scored and 64 hits. He is currently the league leader in runs scored, tied for first in hits, second in on-base percentage (.452) and tied for second in RBI.
 

The 25-year-old was a 14th round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2004 draft. Last season with the Coastal Bend Aviators of the American Association, Richardson batted .301 with eight home runs and 55 RBI.

this past Thursday. The southpaw allowed only two walks and five hits while striking out six Pensacola batters. Phillips is 2-5 on the year with a 4.47 ERA. The Waco, TX native leads the American Association in complete games (4) and shutouts (2).
 

The 23-year-old Phillips played last season with Idaho Falls of the Pioneer League. He was 3-1 with an ERA of 3.97.
