Brockton Rox Pound Worcester Tornadoes 9-1 - Can-Am League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - WORCESTER The Tornadoes were dealt a quick 8-0 hole which proved to be too much as the Brockton Rox avoided the series sweep in dropping Worcester, 9-1, on Wednesday evening at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

Matt Weagle struggled in the quest for his league-leading ninth win. He only pitched 2.1 innings while giving up eight runs (all earned) on 10 hits with two walks and one strikeout. Jeff LaHair did finish 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Scott Grimes and Omar Pena also reached base twice via a single and walk.

Brockton struck early and often with a run in the first inning, four in the second, and three more in the third. Phillip Cuadrado got things started with a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Melvin Falu for the 1-0 lead. The Rox followed by batting around in the second and third innings to open up the 8-0 advantage. Lee

Rubin kept his strong series going with an RBI double, scoring Francisco Lebron for the 2-0 lead. Dominic Ramos then hit an RBI groundout while Vic Davilla and Cuadrado added RBI singles for the 4-0 score. In the third, Dominic Ramos hit an RBI single and Falu swatted a two-RBI single to highlight the scoring outburst.

The Worcester relief core of Ryan Lobban and Chandler Barnard settled down to blank Brockton through the next four frames while Brockton starter Wayne Lundgren continued his mastery. The Tornadoes did touch reliever Jacob Ramos for one run in the seventh on a Grimes bases loaded walk, scoring Pena to make it 8-1.

Brockton got the run right back in the eighth when Lebron’s double scored Cuadrado for the convincing 9-1 final.

The Tornadoes hit the road for a four-game series at New Jersey before returning home for five games next week vs. Sussex and Nashua. Shaun McNamara takes the hill in the opener looking to get Worcester back on the winning track. Next homestand will be full of promotions, starting with Monday’s Guaranteed Win/Salsa Night. Tuesday is New England Sports Night while Wednesday is Park & Rec Day!
