Fort Worth built a big lead on Pensacola but needed a run in the bottom of the ninth to stave off the Pelicans 10-9. The Cats built a 7-1 lead and looked to be in command until Pensacola scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to close the gap to 7-6. Fort Worth responded with two runs in their half of the inning to make it 9-6 before the Pelicans tied the game with three runs in the ninth off closer Jon Hunton. SS Cameron Blair was the star of the game for Fort Worth as he went 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI. 3B Aaron Sisk had a solid game too finishing 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. DH Rafael Alvarez homered in the loss for Pensacola.

Lincoln 6, St. Paul 3

Lincoln used a three run homer from C Shawn McGill and three shutout innings by reliever Daryl Arreola to defeat St. Paul 6-3. McGill’s blast was part of a five run fifth inning that saw Lincoln grab control of the game. The Saints got two runs back in the top of the sixth on CF Brent Krause’s two run home run before Arreola came on to pitch the seventh. The Saltdogs rookie righthander was impressive, striking out five batters and completing the final three innings of the game to earn his second save. 1B Dustin Yount also had a big night for Lincoln as he went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. LF Matt Maloney also homered in the game for Lincoln as did SS Ryan Priddy for St. Paul.

Sioux Falls 6, Grand Prairie 4

DH Will Smith turned in a big performance with a home run, double, and three RBI to lead Sioux Falls past Grand Prairie 6-4. With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, Smith belted his fifth long ball of the year to give the Canaries a 4-1 advantage. The AirHogs rallied to tie the game at four all, but in the bottom of the seventh Sioux Falls used a hit and two Grand Prairie errors to score the final two runs of the contest. AirHogs SS David Espinosa had two hits in four trips to the plate and scored two runs as well. Canaries closer Kris Regas worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts to notch his 20th save.

Wichita 1B Steve Pearson was a one man wrecking crew as he homered twice, doubled twice, drove in five runs and was at the center of a dramatic 8-7 extra inning comeback win over Sioux City. Trailing 5-4 with two out in the bottom of the ninth, Pearson roped an 0-2 pitch to left center to drive in the tying run and send the game to extra innings. Sioux City scored two in the top of the 11th to lead 7-5 before the Wingnuts put two on with none out in the bottom half. Having already collected four hits in five at-bats, Pearson stepped in and dropped down a bunt in an attempt to sacrifice the runners into scoring position. Reliever Tony O’Donnell’s throw to first was high and both runners scored to tie the game 7-7, leaving Pearson at third. After the bases were loaded intentionally, C Felipe Del Rosario singled to right to plate Pearson and give Wichita the win.

El Paso 4, Shreveport 1

For five innings El Paso couldn’t solve Shreveport’s Justin Phillips. Things changed in a hurry during the bottom of the sixth as the Diablos used five consecutive two-out hits, including three doubles, to score four times and beat the Sports 4-1. Jusef Frias tossed 8 1/3 innings for El Paso and struck out 10. He allowed eight hits but just one earned run and improved to 5-4 on the season. Mike Cervera recorded the final two outs to earn his ninth save. Phillips went all eight innings for the Sports and fell to 4-7. Shreveport DH Justin Humphries had a 3-for-4 night at the plate with an RBI
