The St. Paul Saints got a solid outing from starting pitcher Mark Romanczuk who allowed one run on five hits while striking out three in 7 1/3 innings to run his record to 2-0 on the year. The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning then broke the game open with three runs in the seventh to stretch the lead to 4-0. St. Paul 1B Tim Brown led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Saints 2B Tony Mansolino also had a nice game at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBI. St. Paul closer Tony Pierce notched his 14th save of the year after fanning three in 1 1/3 innings.

The game scheduled between Sioux Falls and Sioux City was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow, July 24, beginning at 6:05 PM. Both games will be seven innings.

El Paso closer Mike Cervera came through in a big way for the Diablos in leading them to victory over Grand Prairie. With the bases loaded and no one out in the eighth inning, Cervera came on and retired the next three batters he faced to get El Paso out of a jam. Cervera fanned three in two innings of relief to earn his 11th save of the season. El Paso starter Adam Blackley was credited with the win, pushing his mark to 6-5 on the year. Blackley allowed one run on six hits while striking out two in five innings of work.

Not only did Lincoln get a great outing from starting pitcher Jarrett Gardner, but they got an even better night from their base runners. In a game that did not feature an extra base hit, the Saltdogs made the most of their opportunities on the base paths by stealing five bases. CF Jonny Kaplan swiped his 24th bag of the season, second most in the American Association. Gardner took care of the rest. He allowed four hits and did not issue a walk while striking out eight in a complete game shutout. The victory improved Gardner’s mark to 8-3 on the season.
